Dallas Sedation Dentistry
Do you avoid going to the dentist because of fear? Are you uncomfortable with the sounds, sights, or smells in the dental office? Do you want or need dental care but are kept away by your discomfort or anxiety? You don’t need to be kept prisoner by your fear anymore. Sedation dentistry allows you to overcome your fear of the dentist to get the dental care you need or desire. This can be strengthened even further through the use of NuCalm relaxation dentistry.
How Sedation Dentistry Can Help
Sedation dentistry can help many people who can’t get the dental care they need because of:
- Dental fear or anxiety
- Strong response to negative sights, sounds or smells
- Strong gag reflex
- Inability to sit still for procedures
- Difficulty getting numb
Sedation dentistry helps people who avoid dental care, or who need extensive care that requires a prolonged visit. For people in the latter category, it can help you avoid soreness from sitting and soreness from holding your jaw open by making you more relaxed.
How Pill Based Sedation Dentistry Works
There are many types of sedation dentistry, but we practice the simplest: oral conscious sedation. You just take a pill before coming in for your procedure. (For more serious anxiety, we may also prescribe a pill to be taken before bed the night before.) You will have to have someone drive you to your appointment, but when you arrive, you will find that you are feeling relaxed.
You will be relaxed, but aware and capable of responding to instructions. You will be directed to the operatory, where you will have your dental treatment. After your treatment, we will take you back to the waiting room. We will make sure you’re recovering properly, then turn you over to your friend or family member who is driving you home.
After your procedure, you will notice that you have less discomfort than usual after a dental visit, and you will likely remember little about your dental visit. This can help reduce anxiety for future visits.
DentalVibe®, Anesthesia Injection Option
If nitrous or oral sedation don't do enough, I.V. sedation is a viable option. Suppose the dentist gave you a shot and you didn’t feel it. No pinch. No pain. No discomfort. That’s what happens with DentalVibe® sedation dentistry. This is an amazing device that uses vibration to block the sensation of pain. And it does so without pills, gas, or anything that may produce woozy side-effects. It’s the best thing that’s happened for people who hate dental shots.
Even if dental shots don’t bother you, DentalVibe’s vibration helps the anesthetic dissipate quicker and evenly. Which makes the entire procedure that much better. Why deal with fear, stress, and discomfort when you don’t have to. Our practice uses DentalVibe. So here, pain is a thing of the past.

Am I a Candidate for Sedation Dentistry?
Most people who have had unpleasant experiences or avoid the dentist’s office because of fear, anxiety or discomfort are good candidates for sedation dentistry. However, there are a few reasons why you may not be a candidate.
If you are allergic to the medications used, oral sedation may not be a good option for you. You may also not be a good candidate for oral sedation if you have sleep apnea or other types of sleep disorder.
Before recommending oral sedation, we will talk about your medical history to make sure it’s right for you.
